European Chemicals Policy Now In Effect

Far-reaching rules governing the multibillion - euro chemicals industry came into force at the end of May but environmentalists and consumer groups claim the legislation does not go far enough to protect human health.

New Report: ‘Household Hazards: Potential Hazards of Home Cleaning Products’

Image "Household Hazards: Potential Hazards of Home Cleaning Products" is a new report by Women's Voices for the Earth, a national US women's environmental health and justice group based in Montana, which examines 5 types of chemicals commonly found in household cleaners. These five chemicals are of concern to women and children especially, as they are linked to increases in either asthma or reproductive harm such as birth defects or fertility problems.

baby seat Recent research conducted by the Ecology Center, a Michigan USA based environmental group has found that chemicals such as chlorine, bromine and lead  which have been linked to cancer, liver, thyroid and developmental problems in children are in high concentrations in some popular children’s car seats.

Total Environment Centre (TEC) today released the ‘Easy Guide to Organic Gardening’ at the showcase of the Integrated Sustainability Education Partnership Program. The new guide provides home gardeners with advice on how to avoid exposing themselves and their families to the harmful chemicals found in many synthetic pesticides, fertilisers and herbicides used in the garden.
