"Household Hazards: Potential Hazards of Home Cleaning Products" is a new report by Women's Voices for the Earth, a national US women's environmental health and justice group based in Montana, which examines 5 types of chemicals commonly found in household cleaners. These five chemicals are of concern to women and children especially, as they are linked to increases in either asthma or reproductive harm such as birth defects or fertility problems.

Recent research conducted by the Ecology Center, a Michigan USA based environmental group has found that chemicals such as chlorine, bromine and lead which have been linked to cancer, liver, thyroid and developmental problems in children are in high concentrations in some popular children’s car seats.

Total Environment Centre (TEC) today released the ‘Easy Guide to
Organic Gardening’ at the showcase of the Integrated Sustainability
Education Partnership Program. The new guide provides home gardeners
with advice on how to avoid exposing themselves and their families to
the harmful chemicals found in many synthetic pesticides, fertilisers
and herbicides used in the garden. |

The Safer Solutions team has had a busy few months, with World Environment Day events and lots of conferences and expos. Recently we’ve attended a World Environment Day celebration at Bondi Beach and Safer Solutions publications have been on show at the Huskisson World Environment Day celebration; Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo – thanks to Playgroups NSW; and the National Greenbuild & Renewable Energy EcoShow.
